@sfliberal I agree, with one addition. Firearms confiscated from criminals that would normally be destroyed by the ATF, should also be sold to American citizens.

You guys are right. US mil-surp rifles, including the M16A2-4 as issued, should be made available for sale, say, through the CMP. Personally, I would extend that idea further. If it's an enemy capture, it's automatically yours to keep, up to two firearms. The rest go to the serviceman's weapons depot for reconditioning and re-issue, as appropriate, or go on sale through FFL's as surplus firearms to the American populace.
