On our flight from Orange County John Wayne Airport to Denver, the flight takes off and briefly goes over the ocean before heading towards Colorado.

I have a photo of a plane taking off from SNA into Santa Ana wind posted on Flickr. I added your Youtube screen name @TjGilmourbcx7 as a tag, search on that tag.

  • @moondoggie71 Oh ok, make sense. I've never seen a plane take off from SNA in the other direction over the 405 freeway, I'd like to see that.

Take offs from SNA are generally over Newport Beach toward the Pacific Ocean because that's in to the wind. During Santa Ana Wind conditions take offs are in the opposite direction.

  • I've flown from Orange County to Denver a couple times.. Whenever a plane takes off from SNA they go over the ocean because if they go the other way it's considered a residential area so it's "disturbing" people or whatever.

  • I love the KSNA departure!
