  • MrTgoose,

I'm not Tom House and am not directly affiliated with him so he isn't selling anything. I also don't think Tom House is affiliated with Under Armour so I doubt he's trying to do anything other than help pitchers. The other research supporting this product is pretty amazing; even if you disregard Tom House's comments.

  • I believe most of the studies are available at bitetech.com or you can link to them. That's where I found the information.

  • In response to the dentist:

    1) The ArmourBite Mouthpiece is not made out of rubber and does not become more pliable over time.

    2) You should review the peer-reviewed research from Under Armour. Double-blind, placebo studies were conducted and published. A recent study published in the Journal of the American Dental Association showed an increase in the airway opening when wearing the mouthpiece and a 29% improvement in the O2/CO2 exchange--I doubt that's a placebo effect.

  • though i think this is a cool invention i disagree with his statement that velocity is the name of the game; you see those closers throwing 100 mph and hitters just shit on it. Miles per hour do not phase major league hitters

  • @MrTgoose tim lincecum isn't athletic just very flexible and quick arm speed, I never seen him run a 4.3 40 or bench press or squat 300 pounds, you sound like an idot that's never played the game

  • @MrTgoose he retired dumbass

  • @MrTgoose Tom House was an MLB coach for many years. He was Nolan Ryan's pitching coach, and he also worked with a young Randy Johnson and is credited with guiding him from being a Nuke LaLoosh to becoming of the ten-twenty best pitchers in the history of baseball. USC basically begged him to come coach and as an alum he probably felt he couldn't refuse. He left because NCAA regs were preventing him from doing what he loves best, which is coaching anyone who wants to learn. Do some research...!

  • These are bold comments. I respect Tom House, but we need to see the stats that he is talking about. What sample size did he use? Also , what placebo did he compare to? This is not a double blind study, so therefore their is no validity.

    Thanks

  • As a dentist, I will tell you that putting in a rubber mouth piece does not cause instantaneous loss of tension in the neck and shoulders. If you were to wear this mouth piece for approximately 6-8 hours before you went to pitch and each day between starts, you might see some benefit. However, rubber mouth pieces become more pliable with increased wear and lose their jaw positioning benefits very quickly. This science is suspect and more likely a placebo effect similar to the balance bands.

  • oh, and by the way, Tom House is also the same guy who brought Mark Prior back from obscurity and into the Yankee's organization.
