Millinocket Man Receives Long Awaited, Well Deserved Purple Heart (WABI)

Over 60 years after his plane was shot down in Germany, a man from Millinocket receives his Purple Heart.

Edwin Waite joined the Air Force after Pearl Harbor and was deployed to Germany when World War II broke out.

In 1944, Waite's plane was shot down and Waite was shot in the leg during the attack.

Waite and a couple other soldiers were captured and became POW's until the end of the war.

Thursday, Senator Susan Collins presented Waite with the Purple Heart.
