For this year's event we are honored to have Lee and Bob Woodruff as our Special Guest and Keynote Speaker.
On January 29, 2006, the Woodruffs' lives were changed forever after Bob suffered a devasting brain injury while on assignment in Iraq for ABC News. Bob has since recovered and returned to work for ABC News, while Lee has become a strong voice for caregivers of TBI survivors. The Woodruffs co-authored the #1 best-seller "In An Instant" in 2007, which chronicled their family's recovery, and have since founded the Bob Woodruff Foundation to assist wounded service members and their families following life-altering injuries sustained during combat.

Part of the Associations mission is to increase community awareness about Traumatic Brain Injury. One of the great accomplishments that the BIAWA achieved during this past year was to promote legislation designed to protect our youth when they sustain a sports-related concussion. As the result of BIAWAs efforts, the Zackery Lystedt Law was passed this year. This new law prohibits youth athletes who are suspected of having sustained a concussion from returning to play without a licensed health-care providers approval. This law is the most comprehensive return-to-play sports law in the United States for athletes under 18, and is already being copied and adopted into law by many other states across the country.
