phuket is a gd place to learn to surf, go to karon beach. there is a surf club there by life guard tower( facing the sea it is down the right hand end of the beach) ask for 'char-tree' , he is a great instructor, cheap and a gd laugh. they also rent boards. KARON BEACH SURF CLUB.
