Adagio, Concerto For Clarinet in A Major, K622 composed by WA Mozart 1791.
Uploaded as partial fulfillment of 2009 YouTube Internet Symphony Orchestra Audition.

Tape representing Tan Dun composition is ready but pending due to my formatting /computer overload issues. (Sounds like a personal problem to me, doesn't it?)

Note that I unfortunately experienced numerous "learning" situations in this production.
Both of the videos were completed some time ago, however due to their size; I spent the last few days simply learning how to convert the file and compress it into an acceptable format. I am still not sure I understand what it was I DID do in the end! I don't know if others have faced this access challenge; but it has been...most...interesting a process.

Discouraging how compression affects the final sonic qualities; but everyone is on same footing there. To think a good reed for an audition used to be the main concern!

Now I just keep my fingers crossed, between computer keyboard strokes, that this video loads to YouTube and that I then can load it on the YouTube Symphony site by the deadline!

Suggest, if there is EVER a next time, and I certainly hope there is, that YouTube include easy to find links to the sites with video/audio/ fomating info, AS WELL as step by step instructions for thosemusicians, like myself, that are eager to learn this technology; but would rather be playing music than surfing th internet and experimenting! I have enjoyed the musical aspect of this but the difficulties with the computer side has almost made me give up! Maybe even a help page geared just to us! It would make it more fun!

As an aside, if this all can't be uploaded in time due to all of this, can you IMAGINE how frustrating that is to an individual after putting the considerable time and effort into this process? I just can see that a lot of fine players might be rebuffed by just trying to enter the doorway to this audition!

On the other hand, I have enjoyed seeing the performances and "meeting" other players in this way. I have enjoyed the musical preparation and determining how to approach a new work (Tan Dun). I appreciated the effort put forth by the LSO musicians who offered their advice so freely. It gave those of us not in musical centers an opportunity to work toward a high quality goal. It did encourage utilization of technology with music. I loved the international nature of the event, music being truly as worldwide as the world wide web!!!!

  • Indeed, due to anadministrative hold up, I STILL do not know my status. I believe I completed all of my steps correct & met rules criteria. Got the email on Tan Dun, & replied; but never got one on Mozart although both were submitted on the site. So my journey isn't complete. Marden-Kane is pleasantly working on it . I hope that my work is not for naught.:-(

Would be wonderful international musical event. :-) Perplexing. I will anticipate the best! Perhaps I will see you there!

  • I just read your comments on the side and you said it well...it has been a great journey preparing for this project!
