@lpmar176 usually depends on the seasons as well.. Sometimes geikos will ((if thats what it really is and not just some actor or actress portraying one)) wear more colorful. maybe not full out colorful like maikos ((you know from top to bottom of kimono)) but more colorful than black anyway.. depending on seasons. I have seen some with brighter colors and what not.

The obi is tied in whats called a "Yanagi Musubi" most commonly worn by Tokyo Geisha.

mh i would say it's because she is an experienced, older geiko. they don't have to be so colorful as maikos because they are very expirienced in their arts. but in this big place it looked a bit formal so that could be the reason, too^^

The dancer is portraying a geisha. You can tell in the style of the obi and in the neckline of the kimono. This was and is considered a fashionable style to tie the obi. (^-^)

maiko wear bright kimonos with long flowing sleeves (furisode) geisha don't. this is a geisha. maiko and geisha always dress formal to events. don't know what's up with the obi tie thought.

Does anyone know why in this situation he or she is wearing a black Kimono, which makes the situation seem extremely formal. Is this the actor's choice or color, the producers of the show's choice or??? I've noticed that in other dances they wear more colorful stuff... just curious
