Congressman Don Manzullo (R-IL) questioned AIG CEO Edward Liddy today about the fairness of giving $165 million in taxpayer funded bonuses to the very executives who helped drive AIG into the ground. The questioning took place during a hearing in front of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises.
Manzullo's failures: (1) Liddy says he was told retention contracts could not be altered but later says he terminated some regardless--Liddy did not confront that incosistency; (2) He categorizes some as those responsible for the company to "go sour" but does not define it -- Liddy takes advantage and plays with the scope of who falls under that term; (3) He did not ask what criteria were used to decide whose contract to kill or not -- Liddy made the decisions, he knew.

We wouldn't be in this situation if he had never bailed them out. If I gave $20 to a drug addict, should I get angry when that addict uses some of that money to buy drugs?
