If you time it right, you can whack the fireballs back at the ghast with a sword/tool. Keep at it, there's different interesting things in the nether. ;)

The nether isn't empty or boring there is blaze rods, tons of xp, glowstone, and other important or rare items

u can find other portals within da nether i beloeve, though it will most likely take u to a VERY random probly far location in thereal world. dat might just b as bad, having to find ur way back
