Mahler was recognised for his orchestration & form. He would never have envisaged a flute taking the place of a cello (high for low?). The tone is all wrong, but interesting nevertheless!.

@BeadSpirit I agree with you. Music and art are forms of expression. Alterations and different arrangements is what it's all about. =)

@BeadSpirit Very nice performance!! But I agree with laguyola regarding the flute, I'm afraid.

Fair enough if somebody requested this arrangement, however I am still entitled to my opinion that a flute is not a good substitute for the 'cello , and does not give a suitable tone quality to the music.
I'm sure Mahler wrote for piano, violin, viola and 'cello as that is what he wanted !
There is a lot of good chamber music already written to include flute, and I'm sure that many pieces could be arranged more sympathetically

Very nice arrangement for flute.

TNX YOU SO MUCH!!
Why would you ruin such a fabulous piece of music by putting a flute, instead of viola and 'cello as Mahler intended?
This arrangement does not work at all.The sound quality is not appropriate! Such a shame as the players are all excellent.

This arrangement was requested by Trio Prenzlau from Germany. The live performances were well received and a recording of the piece is planned for early next year. Just because you blurt out a statement like "This arrangement does not work at all" doesn't make it true.
