"I Can Dream, Can't I?" written by Sammy Fain and Irving Kahal in 1937 for the 1938 musical, Right This Way, was recorded by Joni James accompanied by Tony Acquaviva and his 100 Strings for her 1959 MGM album, 100 Strings & Joni available on CD on the Collectors' Choice label and on the CD, Dedicated to You! on Beautiful Music. I invite you to compare this to the versions by the Andrews Sisters and the Carpenters.

  • The song was recorded by Toni Arden in 1949 and was her first major hit record.

Her version is quite different from Joni's and is wonderful also.

With a 100 string orchestra to accompany her Joni gives a first class version

of the song. She puts her all into the song and makes it fresh and alive.

  • The Andrews Sisters (with Patty Andrews as soloist) also had a "revival hit" of this song in early 1950.
