A more or less uncut (if you ignore the tape changes) dash east along the five miles of the Grand Union Canal (Oxford Canal Section) from Napton Junction to Braunston Turn on a sunny, late September morning.

No locks but a few Winding Holes and lots of sheep and bridges and due to that great "Contour Hugger" James Brindley esquire this bit of the cut twists and turns like a twisty turny thing.

We tried to moor near Bridge No 95 so the girls could go for a short course of retail therapy in Braunston but unfortunately, as you will see, could not get within three feet of the bank. Further, with more traffic on this bit of the cut than Spaghetti Junction on a damp Bank Holiday Monday, it took us some little time to regain our rightful place in the fast lane.

LESSON: Avoid Braunston on a Saturday!

  • LOL - I came back through 10 days later (Tue 18th) and it wasn't as busy - guess you just need to avoid all the Weekend Boaters (the "Sunday Driver"'s of the canal system)

  • i was on holiday last week and i did that on tuesday

  • it was obviously busy when you tried to moor

  • Thanks for all of ur vids they all remind me of my time that i lived on a canal boat 4ys ago and i miss it.
