@bumsmith It's a great and sad shame, really. I know the essential goodness of the Mexican people, just as I know that Americans are for the most part decent people. Why do we have to put up with this artificial war and paranoia instead of respecting and cooperating with our neighbors?

@jecklinfamily Yes, I agree with you. It seems to me that there should be friendly relations along this border, not this artificially escalated and stoked paranoia and terror. It's a damn shame.

I remember these people from my trip in 1995. I have heard since the clossing of the border, these people are in great poverty now. I thought about crossing but if you get caught going back into the US you face a $5,000 fine and a year in jail. It's not worth the risk for me.
