  • Its not that small. 180 sworn is the third or fourth largest in the state. Springfield PD has a far better political environment, tell them to apply there.

  • for instance:

If you had a 4- year degree, were a current certified Oregon Police Officer, no convictions, but a traffic citation three years ago,...

they would choose the person who had a 4- year degree, were a current certified Oregon Police Officer, no convictions, but DID NOT have the citation. A LOT of officers want to work for EPD. At least in Oregon. For many, their first choices MAY BE (not necessarily) Portland or OSP, but EPD is desired, nonetheless.

Sorry that this is a reply to such an old comment...

But even a YEAR ago, I know SEVERAL people (from Loss Prevention, Security, Universities and LOTS AND LOTS of area- police departments) that have wanted to be a part of the Eugene Police Department. The problems that they've ALL faced (including those who were CURRENT, CERTIFIED police officers) was that EPD was such a small dept, that they had to be EXTREMELY CHOOSEY of who they hired.

  • Very few officers want to work for EPD
