Marjon Kamara, Permanent Representative of Liberia to the United Nations and Chair of the fifty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women welcomes everyone to this year's session.

The fifty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women opens 27 February 2012 at the United Nations headquarters and focuses on the theme of empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, sustainable development and current challenges.

Meetings and events will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York from Monday, 27 February to Friday, 9 March 2012. Information, news coverage and live webcasts will be available on the CSW website:
