What is the Alexander Technique?
A Principle of the Alexander Technique is that the Head leads and the body follows.
Our Heads have the ability to bring our whole structure into co-ordination. The opposite is also true, by pulling our heads down into our bodies it creates a general tension within us.
As an example, if there is a weight pushing down from above, I could try and fix specific problems directly, like a crease or a sore back but the real change will happen when I release the weight.
Building on this principle another aspect of Alexander is about exploring and improving the way we use ourselves in activities, like playing music, using a computer or even brushing our teeth.
In a Sense, Alexander is an art of everyday life.
To find a teacher nearby a Google search will normally help you, the following societies might also be useful: STAT for UK, AMSAT for United States, AUSTAT for Australia and ATI also has a number of Teachers worldwide.
