@TheJomogogo people of India r still poor not due 2 d spendings of d government towards d science missions, but due to corruption, d enormous amount of Indian money stacked in foreign banks....which r Indian tax payer's money....and which r supposed to be used for India's welfare. Once, a Swiss bank director said, "Indians r poor but India is not a poor country......." --based on d amount of money stacked in Swiss banks only. So stopping the progress of science is not d solution.......

for all the people saying that india should notspend money on the space program.......you know what...........for every dollar spend on the mission ........the ISRO....gives back the government 2 dollars.......and this basically comes from the following 2 reasons
1>launching satellites of other countries at cheap rates.
2>launcing our own satellites(weather,communicati
on,remote sensing etc) indigeniously. -
LOL yeah half of India still lives withouth electricity and have to shit in their back yard while their government crashes a rocket on the moon BFD

(Edit : I meant 0.01% GDP in my post below not 0.001%, my bad)
And btw, India has a 5 Year plan in the hopes of Eradicating Poverty by the year 2015, And then India would compete with China to be a World Economic Power Giant like Japan, US and China. Well, every Developing country has its challenges and I would say India has done pretty well given it's only been 60 years since it became Independent.
Good Luck to India ! Hope India also sends the First human being to the Moon in the future.

Nice, India hopes to get back on the Moon and make a Full Fledged Lunar Probed Mission on the Moon in 2013. You guys in the US better catch up before India and China beat the US in their own game.
And to all those that are crying out loud about Poverty in India, India spent less than 0.001% of it's GDP on the Moon Mission, It wasn't even considered on a Minuscule scale and who says India isn't spending on getting rid of Poverty ?
Poverty Rate of India in 60s was like 50%, Now it's down to 20%.
who knew after 1947 that a country, plundered by the british, will project a moon mission !?!?!?!? awesome India !!
