I am doing a two part green Ohio on coal and southeast Ohio. I broke the story into two parts so you can hear a story advocating for a new coal fired power plant and then hear the other side of the coin. I thought it was the fairest way to talk about this very complex subject... What do you think?
Until the people of these affected communities demand that companies such as AMP be held responsible for their actions and emissions (a radical thought, I know) we will continue to suffer under these dirty sources of power generation - sources which we should never have started relying on in the first place.
There is a better (and ultimately cheaper) alternative. We can get all our power from truly renewable and clean sources like wind, solar, and a plethora of other, new technologies.

The only justification ever offered for these terribly destructive power plants is that they will provide economic incentives. These incentives, however, (new jobs, increased tax revenue, etc.) are more than offset by the cost of environmental and public health damages. These costs, more often than not, fall on other people who are not reaping the benefits (profits) from these plants. This has always been the case and is why they locate these plants in poor and/or rural communities.
