  • I passed the arklow plant in may 09 and the tracks have been pulled up,Irish freight is in a sad state.I was home in 92 and the container terminel down sherriff street had just installed a new 12 million pound leibherr crane.Thats all gone.

  • Wow thanks a million for the info 001 you know your stuff! Don't know why my comment was marked as poor though It was a genuine question from someone with a genuine interest in trains :s

  • you're confusing this with the 'Acrylonitrile-Liner'(the Asahi trains) they ran from Dublin Port to Ballina,

this one is the 'Anhydrous Ammonia liner' which ran Laden from 'Marino Point' Cork Harbour to Shelton abbey (Arklow)co.Wicklow via the Cork main line and the Pheonix Park Tunnel,

  • Thats the "Asahie" train right? That used to come through Athlone every night at 10pm on the button but they stopped transporting Ammonia years ago though I thought??

  • Scania 143???

  • wow thats cool !!

  • It left Connolly at 00:10 so im sure the rev from a 201 class loco rattled you out of your bed!!!

  • Lived beside the line in Shankill. Those Ammonia trains even ran through the night. So sad they are no more :(
