What is SIMEPRODE?

SIMEPRODE is a public organism decentralized by the government. It is a lanfill that was created in 1987 to handle easily, ecological and in a responsible way the wastes. Trying to recycle what is possible. SIMEPRODE has a landfill where trash is disposed.

Advantages

The maintenance and creation of simeprode landfills are very cheep compared to other methods.
The landfill can receive and have all kid of solid waste.
Simeprode landfills, with all the trash and the heat generates methane gas and this gas can be useful to create energy.
Its a very flexible method because it does not depends about permanent installations, you can modify a landfill.
Landfills do not create ashes or generate problems with those solid wastes that cant decompose.




Disadvantages

• It must have good planning, because it can contaminate soil, air, water and devaluation of surrounding land.


• There may be a possible contamination of groundwater and nearby surface waters.

· There are few people working.


• There has to be a regular monitoring of the building to maintain a high level of quality of operations.

• There is a high risk of becoming open dump by the lack of political will of local governments.


• You may have a possible contamination of groundwater and nearby surface waters, unless proper precautions are taken.


• The settlements are stronger in the first two years after the end of the filling; it is therefore difficult to use the land.




Proposals for disadvantages:

As there is a possible contamination of water, it is important to locate the landfill in a very dry place, and far away of a stream or river.
We should have more people working there, to have more bands. Because there is a great amount of trash, and there can be many things recycled.
To make a deeper landfill, by making this we will save space, and in that space something else can be made.
We should leave the landfill alone for certain time, so it can expel the bad gases and then construct something there.
