The contamination happens once or twice a year after heavy rain fall because the neighboring city (Quail Valley) is still using septic tanks and they leak or overflow. Then Canyon Lake is temporarily closed to swimming. Your comment implies that Canyon Lake ALWAYS has polluted water. Canyon Lake is designated by the state of California as a "Fresh Water Reservoir". It has to meet strict standards before human contact is allowed.
