This is why I am mad that racing is so safe today. I miss all of the fires, deaths and mayhem such as this pinnacle of all racing highlights. How great would it had been to roast marshmallows on the VERY RACECAR that caused all of these deaths?!?!?!?!?! If you ask me, safe race tracks and safe race cars should be banned. Bring back the glory days of the sport where heros died on a regular baisis. Praise Jesus and Baby Jesus!!!!!

He should have been banned from Motorsport.. he passed Levegh and Macklin just to do a hard brake maneuver in front of them on a straight.. because he wanted to reach his pitcrew ...which he missed by 80m.. he wanted to win at all costs and he was willing to step over killed in action to win LeMans..

YEP is corret, the starting point of the accident was completely idiotic overtaking by later winner Mike Heathrown.. he passed Levegh and Macklin and braked hard infront of Macklin to reach his pitcrew (which he missed by 80m), Macklin braked hard and moved left not to run into Heathrowns back. Levegh was right behind Macklin and touched Macklin´s Austin and lost controll. Fangio luckly turned to the other side and could pass the spinning cars without getting hit.

I'm from LE MANS, and this tragedy is one of the most important for all the evolution of safety in the 24 hours.

Glad to see this vid, my grandfather told me a lot about this crash but it is the first time i see it in real.

Sorry for my english

Because if they had stopped the race, all spectator would quit the track, and would block the roads... And rescue teams wouldn't be able to join the place of the accident to save wounded people.

@FreddyFromHell some people might not think its awsome how it says it but its something that we can see an accident and something we shall not do again

It's an important moment in racing history, in spite of it being a tragedy. It's a good example of how far racing safety has come and why safety is such a big concern today. I don't think anybody is giving it five starts because they think its cool that 80 people got killed.
