A geeky bit of nostalgia and fun. I loved the opening of Doctor Who back in the early Tom Baker days - it can't really be improved upon - so i've tried to recreate it as closely as possible using the same software I use at my day job: After Effects. It's not quite there yet, but close enough to share for now. Hope you enjoy!

  • Great Job. How did you do it?

  • @jason1771 I found the 'unwrapped' slit scan tunnel with google. I believe there may be some information about it on peggymount's video (which this video is in reply to). I used photoshop to make some adjustments - so it could be seamlessly tiled, that way I could make an endless loop. Found a high resolution fan photo of the modern TARDIS which I manipulated to match the proportions of the Tom Baker titles. From there it was just a lot of tweaking in after effects.

  • Well done! 5 Stars! What software did you use? I've been doing my "nostalgia" titles using FLASH, but I'd like to see what I could do with some 3D software.

  • @sixstanger00 I used Adobe After effects... I'm tinkering around with Blender these days and I occasionally think I might get around to trying again with that software.

  • Where can I find the unwrapped slit scan tunnel ?

  • Absolutely brilliant. My only suggestion is to modify the logo. If you look closely at the actual intro the logo seems to have a horizontal gradient moving upwards as it moves backwards. Other than that it pays good homage to the original. 11/10

  • I liked the part with the logo!

  • This is excellent work I especially like the swirling tunnel effect at 0.08. There are a lot of people trying to do this on youtube yours is the only one that works. Really nice!

  • Damn that was good. You need to do more! Stuff like some of the Pertwee title sequances would be mind blowing awesome +D

    10/10 and a thumbs up!!

  • cheers now I'm blind for life!!!!

  • Better than the originalls! Loved the colours! Jingle bells, Jingle Bells HD all the way!

    :) 10/10
