Correct, but there was never any "gangland" war there as this song indicates, therefore the so called "night Chicago Died" is based on a fictious "East Side".

@smdog66 While you are technically correct...there is no east on the North side, there is an east on the south side. It is everything east of Michigan Ave. There is a neighborhood between 103rd and 130th (If memory serves me correct) just north of Hegwish that we called the east side. I grew up near there.

well speaking of the north side. "north of Lake St" there are no addresses that read "east" ie, there is no "east Fullerton Ave" as well as there is no "east Lake street" don't believe me? just mapquest "1 east fullerton ave" or "1 east Lake st" in chicago, it will come up not found, thereby there is "No east side" by address. GOT IT? COMPRENDE? UNDERSTAND?

so where the heck is the centre of Chicago? If it ain't in the centre, then it ain't the centre! anything north of the centre is north.. anything south of the centre is south.. anything west of the centre is west.. and, according to you.. anything east of the centre doesn't exist!

well after being born and raised and lived in chicago 49 years, there is no center either. Sure you can survey the city and come up with a theoretical "center". Point being from a legal standpoint, no address on the north side, "where most of the gang warfare occured" are any "east" address's, they don't exist. Chicago is not like other cities where legal "east" addresse's exist. If its not on the map,its not there, end of story. This is a song about a event that never occured.

I remember singing in elementary school singing this song with my music group along with "I shot the sheriff".(1974) Boy,times have certainly changed!

Definately some liberties taken with actual history here, but the song brings back good memories.
