  • thanks very much for posting these....

The cossack ad - memorable as it was - was actually erroneous - cos the cossacks were opponents of the Bolsheviks... but i guess National got their point across eh, we were going to turn into a communist state under labour, clearly!

    Thanks again

  • Norman Kirk wanted New Zealand to be self sufficient,

"they" wouldn't left that one fly!

  • Yep, good old Rob.and National in 75. They saved NZ from being a socialist state where people's own, and their employers contributions, in their own name, would eventually give them good pensions, to one where subsequent generations of taxpayers have laid out billions every year for inadequate pensions. Yeah, Rob's mob and National '75 definitely saved private enterprise! Ha ha ha.

  • @fakeplasticjack

Yeah, it's called selling your country out. 1975 Was vintage for that.

  • "and you know what thats called.." ahahha

  • The real question about the cosssack tv ads was who paid for their creation? Never been answered, that one. Expensive stuff by costs of time.

This was a time when a democratically elected govt in chile was overthrown by Nixon and Kissinger. Cartoons were made to help in that. The NZ Nats campaign of 1975 was the dirtiest in NZ's history. There are people still alive with a knowledge of that . . will their conscience prick them before they die? Who knows!

  • The Nats had nine years to change the RMA, and Cave Creek happened under the Nats too and the then Conservation minister resigned.

  • Indeed but our newly departed Labour Government were not exactly angels in this area, though they did keep from the markets they did indulge themselves in the form of the RMA and DOC

  • I agree the cossack ad was erroneous - on two counts - (1) the cossacks were opponents of the Bolsheviks and (2) NZ was not going to become a communist state under Labour - it became that under National instead as NZ remained one of the most regulated countries in the world! Nats don't like to be reminded of that!
