Ode for St. Cecilia's Day (libretto by John Lockemann)
William Boyce

Part 20. Duet: As Nature with The Sun Revives

"As nature with the sun revives,
The magnet kindred iron draws,
As cold with heat incessant strives,
Each orb obeys the gen'ral laws:
So sounds harmonious, soft or strong,
Airy or grave, or sharp or sweet,
The passions fondly draw along,
Whilst, round each heart, the accents beat."

Counter Tenor: Andrew Watts
Tenor: Richard Edgar-Wilson

  • To my untrained ear that sounds quite slick actually.

  • Charmed. I had previously heard little of Boyce's fine music. I believe this is the first vocal I've heard by him.
