Graphics performance demo of Star Wars The Old Republic on the Alienware M11x R3 (Revision 3). The demo is recorded by a Sony DSC-WX5 point and shoot (I don't have FRAPS at the moment). I am running the game via HDMI from the M11x to a 22" HP w2207 monitor at 1680 x 1050 resolution. Due to the higher res, typically the game will run a bit faster if I just output on the laptop screen itself at the native 1366 x 768. As a side note, I actually just run the game using the Intel HD3000 integrated chip when on the laptop screen at low settings (native res) and it runs great. The HD3000 gives me lower fan noise and heat. For this review however, the Nvidia chip is the one I'm using. Laptop specs below:

Intel Core i5 2467M 1.6GHz (2.3GHz w/Turbo Boost, 3MB Cache)
6GB DDR3 at 1333MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT540 graphics with 1.0GB
500GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Service Pack 1

  • how long does it take for the laptop to overheat?

  • @jcontreras48 I haven't had any heat issues with the laptop. Even after 8+ hours of straight SWTOR (with the lid closed playing via HDMI) the heat coming from the laptop is very warm but not hot. Certainly nothing I would consider uncomfortable. Under normal use when the Nvidia chip is not running it stays fairly cool for hours. The fan kicks into high gear when playing games and it seems to do a good job of cooling. I'm definitely impressed with the heat management of the M11x.

  • Hi Tommy can you show gameplay of Battlefield3 (camera footage) and show how many frames u get with different settings? And please dont overclock I want to know frame rates with stock

  • @RioMtl94 Sure. I'll try to shoot the video sometime later this week and post it.

  • @RioMtl94 I just shot the footage. Will upload today and publish.

  • U better be happy you have good frame rate, cuz mine is 6fps on SWTOR. Nice pc you got there tho :)

  • @EvilDeskLamp 6FPS sucks.. Sorry... I've never been that low.. Hope the recent effort to optimize the graphics is helping out..

  • Very cool! I just may save up for a m11x r3 i7 version for my future vacation trips. :)

  • would do better with the i7 and the 2gb 540m

though the 1gb shud be fine...idealy the m11x r3 should max out even with the i5 )prefer i7)

on the 1366x768 screen or that resolution on the bigger monitor if u prefer.

  • @bmdshred77 Low settings for me have been fine pretty much everywhere. The only place that gets noticable lag is on capital ships/stations when its fully populated. I know they are working through some high res texture issues (I'm not sure if they are enabled at the moment) and when they get that fixed I'm hoping they will also add some additional optimizations for better performance. Overall, graphics for me, has not affected gameplay.
