That's what happens when you eat way too much pizza, your kata gets fast and sloppy!

the opposite. to each is there own, but for me i would prefer the person fully express the movement dont create shortcuts to win, sorry luca, im still a fan doe, and yes i have use some of luca form in my form, so its not true when they said you cant teach a dog any new tricks, lol.

good form, and i understand some of the comment by some of my karate-kai but everything serves a purpose. Not saying i totally agree with luca expression of his karate, but i like it for what its worth. if he was to add flowing and power to his kata it would take away from some of the theathrics, what i say is what the seniors say"you can do kata good but can you fight". Simple as that unfortunalety because there is a lot of good kata people out there but they cannot fight and then there is

I like his Kata but Shotokan is supposed to very flowing . strong and flowing ....This man although impressive is far too choppy .... I never saw Kwanku Dai done this way ...It is my favorite Kata since 1973....

Look at all the...."experts"....in here....just looky. EVERYONE on You Tube shares the perfect critique.

1. Shotokan does not have "exaggerated" techniques. Valdesi exaggerates look more spectacular, and the judges seem to appreciate that more than proper kihon.
2. Neko ashi dachi does exist in Shotokan.
3. "Proper" kihon is perhaps the most important thing in kata. There should not exist any such thing as "competition kihon in kata". Kihon is kihon. If not, it's not a martial art. You go and enjoy the showmanship of sports-karate, but don't try to pretend it's real karate-do.
-
@Mirakelmannen No, it's true. He had to exaggerate the techniques. Nekoashi dachi in Shito or Goju is very similar, but in Shotokan it doesn't exist, it is exaggerated.
Anyway, look at the katas that students of soke Yoshimi Inoue do. Specifically Rika Usami. Perhaps Diaz does not have "proper" kihon, but tell me, does Rika Usami has?
Anyway, there might be a difference between, what you claim is proper kihon and competition kihon in kata. But still, you can't say that Diaz is bad. No way.
Thats not kata as much as it's plain choreography. It's preformance art rather than martial art; showmanship rather than karate do. It's pointless. The kihon is all but lost because of the rushed speed. Also, a kata should flow, while this starts and stops and looks embarrasingly theatrical. Though superficially, it seems impressive enough -and that seems to be the main idea here.
