KENYA SHOWERS LONDON COMMUTERS WITH 13,000 KENYAN ROSES TO CELEBRATE ROYAL WEDDING

As excitement builds in anticipation of the Royal Wedding, Kenya celebrated the marriage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, who got engaged there, with gifts of Kenyan roses for London commuters.

13,000 roses were hand-picked from Flamingo Farm in Naivasha, Kenya, and handed out to commuters by a group of Maasai Warriors in traditional dress at London Bridge, Waterloo, Liverpool Street and Kings Cross underground stations. A selection of national, trade and lifestyle UK media also received a bouquet of roses while The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson got in on the action.

A card was attached to each rose with a note to highlight Kenya's offerings as a romantic destination as chosen by Prince William for his marriage proposal to Catherine Middleton last October next to a beautiful lake on Mount Kenya. The bride and groom have also included a 'Save the Black Rhino' project in Kenya among the charities close to their hearts on their wedding gift list.

Kenya Tourist Board partnered with The Kenya Flower Council and The Maasai Arts Organisation to organise this event with tour operator Hayes and Jarvis providing a special romantic holiday package for those wishing to experience the romance of Kenya for themselves.

  • Just to clarify any confusion below, all talent used in this campaign are British passport holders or have the required visas to work in the UK. The Kenya Maasai Warriors are registered members of the Maasai Arts Organisation.

It is fantastic to have such great representatives of Kenya in the UK to help spread the message about the destination.

Thank you for the positive comments!!

  • @sweetsingeruk Funnily enough the UK Border Agency does have an exchange program with Commonwealth countries, and there are opportunities to transfer to HM Customs & Excise abroad. My father was on secondment in Nairobi during the Mau Mau rebellion; he says he literally got away with murder. As fun as that sounds, I'm sure if I transferred more of you buggers would somehow get in!

  • @badianyaryimbo Unfortnately these 'handsome warriors' are reduced to being nothing more than a tourism marketing strategy for their white 'hosts', shown with them. Such a shame. I wonder how many people would have willingly taken the roses if white people weren't standing next to the tribesmen....?

  • @TheShuai Please do NOT EVER enter Kenya. They don't want your filthy kind there.

  • @TheShuai Twat.

  • Woow fabuLous way to market Kenya. Good work and handsome warriors :D
