Gaze up at huge 800 year old giant trees at this living old-growth forest. Cathedral Grove / MacMillian Provincial Park is a great place to spend the day with your family and see what Vancouver Island was like hundreds of years ago.

Cathedral Grove is located just outside Parksville and Qualicum Beach on the way to Port Alberni, Ucluelet / Tofino, and the Pacific Rim National Park attractions of Wickaninnish and Long Beach.

  • Cool video. It simply gives you a glimpse of what lower BC used to look like all over the place a 100 years ago. Of course, the trees in Cathedral Grove are not that tall, they are about average for old growth. The really big and tall ones are pretty much all gone. I mean, they were chopping down 300-350 foot fir trees 11 to 13 feet thick back in the 1880's where downtown Vancouver is today, and there were exceptional trees 50-100 feet taller than that in the valleys and hills.

  • thanks for the video, I will definately check it out one day!
