This is my favorite music video (just discovered) on YouTube - period. I hope one day all you great players can come to Natchez, Mississippi (the oldest city on the Mississippi) and play in an annual gathering in an atmosphere that only a more southern location with an unique abundance of antebellum architecture can provide.
I saw a statement - somewhere among your videos I was playing - that you came in second at this 2007 competition. Are you kidding me??????? Who was first? Scott Joplin?

@rtpress I suppose it should be added now that Adam did, in fact, win the Regular Division two more times and is now retired from competition at the ripe old age of 18.

This guy is without a doubt the best ragtime pianist today of them all!

As Bach would say... all music is...is playing the right notes at the right time.

whoa! thats so awesome i wish i could play like that
I don't get why these ragtime competitions and festivals have "junior divisions" or "youth recitals". Pianists like Max Keenlyside and Adam Swanson play ragtime better than most adults I've seen but they're always labeled as junior performers or something in festivals. Many of the original ragtime pianists were well established before they were 20.

It's to encourage the younger players with their own showcase. Which has worked quite well. To accommodate the youthful super-talent, there's also a rule making one ineligible to compete as a junior after 3 wins. Adam Swanson thus chose to compete in the Regular Division at age 15 and went on to win last year at the age of 16. Breaking Adam Yarian's previous record as the youngest champion. But he'll need 2 more to equal the full records of Adam Yarian and Brian Holland. Stay tuned.
