Children of the Storm features youth of New Orleans recounting their personal experiences of Hurricane Katrina, using artwork to illustrate their stories. The interviews took place during the students' first semester back in New Orleans following Katrina (Spring 2006). The film was shot during several after school video production classes that were sponsored by the New Orleans Video Access Center (NOVAC). Within the classes, students learned about documentary filmmaking by interviewing each other and serving as sound and camera assistants. The film presents the candid impressions of the children and their hopes for recovery efforts.

I can't understand why the Government isn't rebuilding the 9th ward. I wonder if it is because it was the ghetto and mostly minority. These children may seem normal, but they are going to need counseling to help them deal with all of this.

This was a great prospective, I am currently doing research on educational policies as they affect students during and after Hurricanes and this was a great way to share the psychological stress that children have.
Thanks

Thank you for sharing this perspective with us...we know what the adults have said..this helped me remember that these are the children who will grow up as children of the storm.

God bless Katrina victims and let's keep up donating what we all can! We have to put ourselves in their shoes and do what we would want someone else to do for us.

These children will be in their seventies and still experiencing the effects of Katrina. That event was every bit as devastating to these communities as the dust bowl or great depression were. The resilience we see here is a powerful thing.
