Say Forever - 34

"Final call for flight 1218 to Manchester, England now boarding all sections." Throwing my bag over my shoulder I walked towards the already growing line. Feeling my palms sweat I began to feel the anxiety of boarding the plane, for what I planned was the last time. Looking at my surroundings one last time I couldn't help but feel as if my life was finally having a brighter look on things. This was it, this was what was planned for me.

"Good evening Mr. Jonas." Smiling at the happy attendant I handed him my ticket as I counted all the planes ready for takeoff. "Have a comfortable and safe flight. Please hurry to your seat we are about to take off shortly and we'd like to get there on time." Nodding slightly I walked through the cramped walk ways.

"Sir please turn your phone off or switch it to flight mode for the duration of the flight." It hadn't even occurred to me that the ruckus was coming from my side pocket. "I'll be sure to do so when I've been seated." Politely nodding the flight attendant began to assist others on board who seemed to be at a complete lost when it came to the safety procedures.

Finally situated I took a look at my phone and instantly recognized the name. it was the same name that seemed to get my breath stuck in my throat. The name belonged to the one person who could make my heart skip a full beat. Looking at the blinking voicemail icon I hesitated before actually listening to the message.

"Nick, I-I I know for a fact that I have no right to ask this of you, but please Nick don't leave. I'm sorry, I was scared I couldn't go through that again. I couldn't wake up every single day of my life wondering if you'd go out and hurt me again. The pain was so unbearable! I never wanted to feel that way again. I just couldn't even think about you without having the urge to cry. But Nick, I'm telling you this right now. I was wrong, I know you may not believe this but there was not one moment we were apart that I didn't think of you. Taylor just got home and I can't help but wish it were you that were walking through that door. She told me that I would eventually grow to be able to live without you but, that's the thing Nick, I never want to live without you again. I lost you once for my foolishness and I'm begging you Nick please don't let me lose you one more time. I know it's completely unfair of me to do this, to plead for your forgiveness when you've been doing the exact same. If you leave now, our love has no fighting chance."

And that's where the message ended. Just the sound of her voice could make me fall in love with her all over again. I couldn't fathom the courage to even face my phone, because I knew exactly what I would see. I would see the two of us standing in front of Arrowhead High School with my arm thrown over her shoulder smiling like the sun wasn't going to rise the next morning. It was the first photo that had ever been taken of us two.

"Sir we are about to take off please turn your phone off until the captain allows electronic devices to be used." My whole body felt numb as I felt the plane slight jerk forward as we started our descendent to our final destination.

"The hearts one desire is to find it's missing half." Taking in for the first time my flight neighbor I threw him a confused look. "Excuse me?"

"The look on your face tells it all. This isn't the place you're supposed to be at. You heart is telling you things that your head doesn't want to seem to listen to."

And so began my long story to a stranger that I had only known for a mere four seconds. "This may sound cliché but, listen to your heart. What is it exactly telling you?"

"I don't know."

"I think you do but you're not willing to listen."

"I am, and it's giving me absolutely no answer to all of my
questions!" It was getting absolutely frustrating to even sit here and just think.

"The answer will come to you when the time is right, and maybe the time isn't right." The elderly man turned away from me resting his head against the seat, soundlessly dosing off.

"Why does love have to be so damn complicated?!" I whispered harshly to no one in particular and I couldn't help but laugh to myself as Taylor's answer came seeping through my mind. "That's the beauty of love Nick, the fact that it's utterly unpredictable."
