In this video, I'm providing you with a groove that focuses on building thumb technique. This is just more practice material. It is essential to have a solid foundation in any style of music. If you master this technique and the others, you will be well on your way to playing the most challenging slap grooves. You can download the music at "anthonyvitti.com" Anthony Vitti - Professor Bass Department - Berklee College of Music

  • Hey! I love your lessons, thanks a lot! I just have a question, when you slap, do you make that your thumb goes through the string (Like if you were doing the double thumb technic) ? Because I can't see it really well... or do you make your thumb bounce against the string? thank you =)

  • Thanks Dave, glad I can be of some help. I play through the string, unless the line is very fast. Then I kind of bounce off because the notes don't need to be long.

What's your opinion on Pre-CBS Fender basses?

Someone told me 64 would be the best since that was the last year Leo was making the basses.

  • Hey Anthony,

I studied with you a long time ago at Berklee. You're doing amazing things, but I was hoping for a video dedicated to Marcus. I know he has been such an influence on you, as with the rest of us. If anyone should do it, it's you. Just a video exploring some of Marcus' grooves and why they're so funky! Thanks, and I'll contact you soon!

  • bass sounds great and for me its all about how your bass sound i mean the bassist need to know what he or she is going also. great job tho ..

  • Forgive me if this has already been asked and answered 100 times already, but I just stumbled upon your videos, which are GREAT, and I was wondering if the tape on your thumb is there more for protecting your thumb from shredding it up while slapping, or is it there to help your slap technique? Thanks.

  • I had to pay a buttload of cash to berklee to learn this stuff... and now it's online...for free??
