Saddam's last words left me with some questions about the militaristic and humanistic parts of the Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition

I agree, I used to believe in god. I respect peoples desires to believe in something holy but the history of mankinds organized religions reigning havoc over women/children made me lose faith, No all loving kind God would allow men to enslave women and allow such viollence all in his name. If such a god did exist and allow this, as it has happened then I would not choose to follow. Either god has control of humanities brutality and chooses to do nothing or he does not exist.

religion positions itself between human beings and god. It claims to be the human authority speaking on behalf of god. I fail to see where domination and facism is inconsistent with religion. If religion was not in it for the money and power then it wouldn't exist, as they all claim there is a personal god. If god really was personal, there would be no need for an intermediate group of people speaking on its behalf.

No, it's not Saddam's job to worry about the 'good' sides of religion. His job is to show to the world that he stood firm in the face of death that the powers that be imposed on him. it's our job, the liberals, to expose the worst of these religions!
