  • Yes, those songs were intended to suppress the growing Black Power movement! They want to keep blacks emotional instead of logical! Yet, other men build navies to stop the blue-eyed-devils!

  • TRUTH...THANK U!!!

  • Excellent points! I will say the music is redundantly vulgar today but I won't place the blame entirely on the artist. Parental Discretion is Imperative. A major difference too is back then "Conscious" music got just as much airplay as the other genre's until "they" put the Axe on conscious music and more focus/airplay was given to "Gangsta Rap". Overall, I/we had more choices.....Love that song, "Get Down!" and that was my dance at 8:55 "The Four Corners" lol !!

  • I've always pointed out fact and fiction to my children in regards to the entertainment industry. Music has a big influence on the youth. I remember how Prince had me thinking some ish. No matter what my mother said, I was on some Pasley Park bs until I grew out of it. It's up to musicians to respect the youth, and the parents to teach the youth. Too much of anything is a bad thing.

  • I remember my older brother and I having fights over the rap music at the time that he would listen to very loudly that I found disrespectful. 2 Pac was the only one that we could agree on, problem solved lol!

  • Continued. you'll gravitate toward what makes you happy right or wrong. My mom never could quite understand my problems or express words and things I was feeling the way Tupac, Cormega, Nas, and others could. In a way they helped shaped soe of my life as I see it. I was far more embeded into hip-hop and have a thriving passion for it. I'll admit most music now doesn't offer anything and lacks social commentary over all and without balance it can only go in the designated direction.

  • As a 21 year old male Hip-Hop does affect the youth whether we care to agree or not. As a young man I can recall being seduced by the words and imagery rap videos portrayed. Well aware it was on tv fact is I was a young man who wanted what they had and often the usic was my escape from my own life that I never enjoyed. In some ways hip-hop shaped some of my values as well as often alerting me of what life has in store. It wasn't always positive but same time

  • Yes I do agree that Rap music with profanity affects young men and women period; It is also the parents job to teach their children that people who make music are just in it for the money, it is just entertainment it is not life, Most of these so called gangster rappers are not from the ghetto.

  • Many of the single parents made these babies by mistake and aren't ready to raise them properly. Also important...The tactic of parents being 'friends' with children blows up in their face as these kids do whatever they want at home and at school. Today's music industry (and multimedia) is a different beast compared to the 1970's and they promote nothing but NEGATIVITY to their biggest clients....The Youth. There's no balance, so the kids eat the negativity without hesitation.

  • Great video Brotherman. I think that today's music (including other branches of the MULTImedia....movies, internet, etc) does have a negative effect on the youth. The value system of today's single family households also feed into the situation as there are a lack of priorities that many of us remember...do your homework, chores (etc) before getting on the phone, going outside, playing video games, turning the music or TV, etc. At any rate, there's plenty of blame to go around.
