Peyton Manning definatly should have won the Heisman.  It still makes me mad to think about it now.

If woodson kicked ass all year, then how does berry not win the heisman his sophmore year having a superior year to woodson's? I realize that the Heisman almost always never goes to the best player in the country. It's a popularity contest, and woodson won it that year thanks to the media. espn was not on 'manning's dick' as you like to put it, if they would have been, it would have never been close.

It kills me that the loss of the Heisman gets blamed on his performance(s) against Florida and those losses all get blamed on Peyton. Why don't we take a look at the averages in points and yardage the UT defenses were giving up for those 4 years? Florida averaged over 40 points a year during Manning's run. When Tee came in in 98 and won, we held them to 17. That's a 23 point swing.

All I can say is, UT fans need to quit bragging, the win was 16 years ago, and quit shoving the 0-9 SEC record down Buckeyes fans throat. Buckeye fans need to quit fussing, as I have heard alot. UT outplayed them this game, but look also, OSU was on the verge of a huge season, and just came off a loss to Michigan, and this game showed OSU didn't want to be there. There are home away games between OSU and Georgia for 2 years, and home/away games with OSU and Tennessee

Peyton didn't win the trophy because he didn't live up to expectations. Fair, no; real yes. The hype early on for him in 97 was unreal. when he lost that one game he lost the trophy. He was a great QB though. As a Buckeye fan there is no crying here. Rocky Top outplayed us. What a talented team you had in the 90s. When you can get the right coach it will come again.

The Heisman should have been Manning's, of course. But Woodson was the star of a national title contender, and all the journalists of the time were caught up in the fad to buck Heisman tradition and give the award to an unconventional choice.

(and btw, I do like Woodson, he's been a superb pro player)

@walstib77 wow. that might have been the greatest example of a crybaby buckeyes fan I've ever seen. maybe your guy slipped because he anticipated the pass to be in the endzone, then had to stop suddenly, then had to try to tackle. all kent had to do was slow down a little bit and spin around to catch the ball

Watch the defender slip in the rain. UT players had nice traction in their illegal cleats though.
