John Sorenson, an authority on Book of Mormon geography, gave a lecture at Olive Wood books on The Book of Mormon, geography, and Mesoamerica.
The lighting was not that good, and I couldn't do anything about it, but the information is great.
In this clip he discusses
-the large bodies of water mentioned in the BOM
-Magnetism and directions
-What Joseph Smith could not have known, but were bullseyes in Mesoamerica.

The two known ancient Israelite directional systems are sun-oriented, specifically oriented toward the rising sun. The Temple of Solomon was oriented so that on equinox day the first rays went through the temple doors. Lehi was also likely aware of the Northern constellations which would just be lower on the horizon in the Americas compared to Jerusalem. The directional glyphs found in Classic Maya inscriptions and in Postclassic Maya codices are based on the route of the sun across the sky.
