Yeah, i got kinda confused at that too.
I was thinking about why he didn't look at his wife, all i got to my head was a. He didn't love her, or b. he didn't really pay attention. But i guess that since he was looking down at the picture he didn't see her get pushed down and when he looked up, he didn't see her cause she was on the ground.
