Social Suicide

For many, proclaiming a personal rejection of the supernatural is a non-event. Within the home and throughout the workplace, it changes nothing. But for others, the term "atheist" is toxic and carries significant personal consequences.

These are the actual voices of several men and women who have been cast out, cut off, ostracized and/or otherwise penalized for the crime of thinking for themselves.

this is what i hate most about religion, it segregates people. you are not a different person when you stop believing, you have the same morals. you are exactly the same person, you believe in other things thats the only difference really.

why must so many religious people do this? why cant they just accept you for who you are. regardless of religion.

i dont judge people for being religious, and i dont try to preach atheism, unless they try to preach religion to me.

I live in Sweden and no one (except people who have moved here from other countries) want to say that they believe in god, they can be religious but only for the "moral"parts. They go to church for gifts and spare time activity ^^.

The Catholic Church doesn't give a rat's ass if you turn up to Church or not. No one calls you and no one comes looking for you. You can be gone for a year and no one would even notice you weren't there! What a bunch of caring, loving Christians, hey?

For us Europeans all this "Atheism -social suicide" doesnt realy exist.I m an Atheist.My family know,my friends now ,the neighybours know and even most of my patients know (I m a Doctor)

Big deal.Most do not care and many are atheists themselves even if they go to chirch for traditional reasons rather than true religious belief.
