Oscar-nominated for her performance in this film, Susan Hayward gives a wonderful rendition of "Sing you Sinngers". Note: the gal did her own singing in the film!

  • Ms Hayward was a box office superstar who was a great actress, and had movie star glamour and was sexy beyond belief. Ms. Hayward felt this was her best performance and her Director Danny Mann her favorite. Susan Hayward did the signing herself and was winner of the Cannes Film Festival for Best Actress, nominated for Best Actress for the 4th time, she would win a few years later for her classic performance in I Want To Live

A truly great star, winner of every major acting award.

    RIP

  • Can you imagine? That was really her singing in this production. She was versatile; Lillian Roth was disappointed that her own voice wasn't used for her own biopic.

  • @hebneh ~ And if the original number had been accurately replicated in 1955, audiences would have laughed it right off the screen. Personally, I prefer Hayward's singing, and I like the boys' dance moves. It was a common custom in 50s movies to present the 20s and 30s in 50s styles (see also "Love Me or Leave Me").

  • @baldrottweiler ~ Why are you cyber-screaming at us, in CAPS?

  • Having just watched the original movie version of this song (in which the real Lillian has just a short part), I have to laugh at the differences. The original was from 1930, and this 1955 performance is 100% 1950s in its music, costuming, staging, and dancing, with absolutely no similarity to what appeared in 1930. This one even has the ultimate '50s dance move, men sliding onstage on their knees with their arms stretched skyward (at 3:10).

  • Those 2 trumpet players slid in at top of stairs from right and left like power point presentation!

  • THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SCENE FROM MADAM SATAN THAT CECIL B DEMILLE DIRECTED IN 1930, BUT IF YOU TYPE THE NAME LILLIAN ROTH AND WATCH THE ORIGINAL SCENE, YOU WILL SEE A STARK CONTRAST BETWEEN THIS SCENE AND THE ORIGINAL. THEY MAY HAVE CHANGED IT DUE TO THE RACIST OVERTONES MADE IN THE ORIGINAL AS THE SCENE TAKES PLACE AT A CHURCH PROCESSION IN WHICH THE PARTICIPANTS WERE BLACK. THE WAY THE ACTORS ARE DRESSED IN THAT SCENE YOU WOULD HAVE SWORN THAT BLACKS HAD NEVER LEFT THE PLANTATION.
