this is how i set up my m-audio fast track ultra 8r.
im pretty sure this will work for most interfaces like the tascam 1641s

1. create a new project, select whatever template, then choose where ever you want to save it. go to devices/device set up. under vst audio stystem make sure you select your interface under ASIO Driver. hit okay.

2. go to devices/ vst connections/inputs. under presets select 8 mono in. from there, under the DEVICE PORT section, your inputs will be out of order. simply left click each highlighted port and select its corresponding mono input.... (ie: mono in 1 - analog in 1 fast track ultra 8r/ mono in 2 - analog in 2 fast track ultra 8r... and so forth). you are most likely going to have them in order going down the inputs. then click the outputs tab and make sure the only bus you have states "STEREO OUT" and has a left and right output. close the subwindow.

3. add a new track by going to PROJECT/ADD TRACK/AUDIO. select 8 counts and make sure you have MONO selected under configuration. hit ok.

4. select the track "Audio 01" and on the left hand side you'll see Mono In 1 in a black box and Stereo Out in a black box right underneath it. click the box that says "Mono In 1" and select Mono In 1. Select track Audio 02 and click the same black box that says "Mono In 1" and then select "Mono In 2"... do this for each AUDIO track and select its corresponding Mono Input.

5. after you do this for each audio track, click the recording button on each track and make sure they are all red to ensure they are enabled to record.

6. then hit the master Record button at the top! and youre all ready to record.

hopefully this works for you. leave me a comment if you have trouble for SETTING UP YOUR INTERFACE ONLY! im not a master of this program so dont expect me to know everything.

THANKS FOR WATCHING!

  • I can't get it to record no matter what I do. My AI is set up right but my mic doesn't pick anything up. Help?

  • @TheStSilver are you using a condenser mic? if so, does your interface have phantom power? if not, you gotta buy a phantom power block. if not and youve follwed these steps, could be your hardware.

  • Thank you so much! This info should be told to you by a sales clerk at the store. I've been trying for days. I mean, registering is even a pain..lol.

  • @squirrelking1993 lol, yea, it would be so much easier if they had someone show you hands on how to do this. it took me a lot of research to figure this out! lol, but im glad i could help
