Yeah yeah... but it wasn't funny. If it's too hard to do it well and make it funny at the same time, then don't do it. What he did was like try to do the original, but with only one little set, and like two gags, no transitions, no choreography, and without the amazing talent for physical humor Donald O'Connor had. He may have done it well, but then I'm saying it's not good enough to do this one well.
how was it an embarrassment? You can never emulate the original, but he did a nice version. He didn't mess with it at all, it was pretty much meant to be a clear homage, not his own "take on it"- which was lucky for us- and it suited the premise of SNL quite well.
Levitt also had to do it live, in one take, while singing. Donald O'Connor is the greatest, there's no question. But let's at least give JGL a lot of credit for attempting an incredibly difficult routine in front of millions, in one go. It was an homage, and a very good one.
