If you are going Chicago to Los Angeles, ride the Southwest Chief instead, its quicker and a day shorter. I would go the Texas Eagle route for only one reason, I want to see Texas, which isn't much different than New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas. The difference would be Tucson, El Paso, San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth, and Dallas' skylines, plus Little Rock and St. Louis.
I've been through to San Antonio - seems like Texas goes forever - Does it become more scenic after San Antonio? I'm taking a trip in May to Chicago for the 1st time.
I rode the Texas eagle from Austin to LA. Then LA all the way back to chicago. Its a superb run. Anyone thinking of doing it. You wont be disappointed. Is it in Texarkana when the station is real close to a penitentiary???
