Emily and Susan meet for breakfast at the Lakeview and Emily begins to frantically talk to her mother about Dusty's murder. She tells her mother that she has learned that Holden has been charged with killing Dusty, but she believes Holden isn't responsible. As she continues to expand on her regrets over the events surrounding Dusty's death. Susan tells her to stop talking like she is guilty of killing him because Susan has made sure that no one suspects her. Emily is confused by Susan's confession and wants to know what her mother means when she says that she took suspicion away from Emily. Susan explains that she told Margo about seeing Holden in front of the drug cart at the hospital the night of Dusty's murder. Emily is shocked, but Susan makes it clear that everything she said was true and that if Holden is innocent he will be exonerated. She reminds Emily that if the police are focused on Holden, then they won't be looking at Emily as a suspect. Emily tells her mother that she doesn't want Holden going to jail just to take suspicion off of her. Susan reminds Emily that if Margo takes her in for questioning she will have to admit that she was fighting with Chris about her past as a prostitute, which could lead to her losing visitation with her son, Daniel. As the two continue their talk, Tom arrives and asks to speak with Emily about something that will affect Daniel. Alison walks in and Emily tries to use her to escape talking to Tom, but he reveals that he called Alison because he needs to talk to both of them about Dusty's final wishes.

Tom sits with Emily and Alison in the Lakeview and explains that Dusty's will had a college fund set aside for Alison. He also hands Alison a letter from Dusty that heartens her to move on with her life and go to school. Emily encourages her sister to return to college and reminds her that it would make Dusty proud. Tom then focuses his attention on Emily and tells her that Dusty's will might drastically affect how much time she will be spending with her son.
