Watch your head mate! This excavator is a specialist bit of kit, driven by skilled workers. Crossing this bog habitat could easily end in disaster, and on several occassions almost did, with the machinery almost disapearing into the bog.

Ditching blocking is part of ongoing work to restore Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve to bog or raised mire. The excavator is inserting plastic pylons into ditches to prevent water run off and so causing water level rise across the bog. Bog habitats are rare and support a diverse range of flora and fauna. At Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve there is plenty to see including adders, common lizard, snipe and a number of different dragonflies. See www.cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk for more information on the reserve.
