He's making lather the wrong way (too dry), holding the razor at the wrong angle (too steep, will not slide but cut into the flesh).. if this was real, the boy would be dead.
And yes, I shave with a straight razor every day.

No, its a power trip. Everything goes the way Big John directs it.
-
I saw the same thing. Big John is a Groomer and a stalker. He's just taking his time for the kill.

@cyberplan03 in thought you were him, i read stephen ryders interview at the time this movie came out and he is a most intelligent balanced individuall, he basically said which is true that millions of men and teenage boys throughout history have been in loving and commited relationships, and he just wanted to write something that reflecetd this reality.
-
@hargohargo well not at all, im not so brilliant , the name of the screnplay writer is Stephen Ryder....
-
@cyberplan03 this is a cool movie did you write the original screenplay?

He teaches him how to shave," I said. Then, in an instant, Michael knew it was true.
And it was his decision to use a straight razor. I argued against it and I was wrong. It was a stroke of genius on Michael's part. I wasn't on the set and the first time I saw the scene was in the theater.
You want to hear the dialogue that was deleted from that scene?

That scene evolved in an interesting way. One day Michael Cuesta called me on the phone after reading my latest script rewrite and said. "They're not bonding enough--what would bond them--how would they bond? Meaning Howie and John. How does a man bond with a boy?" Michael's son was only about two years old at the time, mine were already in their thirties.
