I've forgotten the point in this conversation but OK modern English is a mosh pit of other languages which is why I like Anglo-Saxon the native tounge.
@HarryBodensson I mean the actual motto of the United Kingdom.
I didn't say that english was french, but around the half of the vocabulary comes from french, as french comes fromes latin but isn't.
There is so words wich are almost the same in thoses both langage, and there is not this fact with ohter germanic langages.
In english there is often two kind of manner for say something;ex:an ox/a beef ; a pork/a pig ;celestial/heavenly ; a warm welcome / a cordial reception....your langage is dual
Sorry, do you mean the official motto of the Norman aristocracy or the peoples motto? Normanized Anglo-Saxon has still got the root word of A.S but it's frenchised which doesn't make it french. We took 4 words from Celtic over 600 from Norman french but there still remains 300,000+ Anglo-Saxon words so where does 50% come from? I've heard that before One person says it and you all spread it around.
@HarryBodensson It's not imagination. Take a little time to make research on the english langage history and you will see I am right. Do you know what is the english motto? You should know...
Thats not true by any stretch of the imagination. Instead of making untrue remarks based on what you would like to be true why don't you research what the experts say?
the biggest obstacle in understanding spoken English for non-English speakers is the "accent". I remember the first time I went to England my English flatmate had to repeat the word "nice" 25 times before I could recognize it. Spanish, Italian and even German phonology r quite simple, while the English phonology is one of the vastest: amazingly the number of phonemes in English are even a matter of dispute! 18 to 27 vowels. (5 only in Spanish) + consonants.
@qiovanni i learned a trick to communicate with spanish speakers of reasonable intellegence . americans think theyre dumb cause they cant speak english so we tend to use little words english/ germanic words which they cant understand but if one uses bigger words they will understand better for instances . if you say "you know what i mean" they probably will think wtf but if you say "you comprehend me" they will prob guess timate what youre saying. if you say make easy wtf.. facilitate and ect
Nice video, pity you forgot the Dutch in the beginning of it.
