You can't possibly be serious!!!! This movie is a work of art, one of the best EVER!!!! Can't you see how poetic it is???? Are you blind??? I don't believe you studied "film"...com' on, confess it!

My advice:watch it again. I'm Italian and I don't need subtitles, that's why you didn't like...if you don't understant the language, you miss an essential part of it!!!!

It's one of the most sublime movies ever, I'm brazilian, and had to read the subtitles, but still could capture it's essence! Italian movies... One of the best!

sorry to be the one to call out the "emperor's new clothes," but this film has NO MERIT WHATSOEVER - and if you like it you are mad pretentious and fake. it's not that this movie was "too shocking" or "too extreme" for me - it could have been much more taboo, revolting, grotesque, explicit, emetic - it's just that it was done in a sloppy way in which i didn't give a shit about anyone, didnt care if ALL the characters in the film lived or died. not a family that i "loved to hate": it's a BULLSHIT

i studied film and have watched films by fellini, rosi, rossellini, visconti, de sica - and i even saw another ettore scola film "c'erevamo tanto amati" a long time ago - NOTHING can compare to how shitty, unfocused and boring this grotesque of a poor dysfunctional family is. the acting, writing, cinematography, music, editing ALL suck. there is NO ONE to identify with no matter how much they fuck rape incest fight eat raw meat set on fire poison - not funny not sad not shocking-NOTHING.TRASH!
